Cesc Fabregas has given an interview to Chelsea TV and has raised a point for debate. He has stated that these days, it's more difficult for talented players to succeed in the game. Do you agree?
For me personally, Cesc Fabregas is the perfect example of a player who finds himself in exactly that situation this season having given way to Nemanja Matic and N'Golo Kante in the heart of Chelsea's midfield under Antonio Conte.
He said:
"Today it's more difficult for the more talented players to succeed.
I don't think my physical abilities are the best – I'm not the quickest, I'm not the strongest, I'm not the sharpest, so you have to be ahead of the game if a player like me wants to succeed in football.
To be a football player today... if you are very strong or you run a lot or stuff like that it's easier.
That's why I try to get even better because football is growing in a way that before I don't think it was.
Everyday you see less talent and more power and players running around." - Source: Daily Mail.
The game is changing compared to that of ten years ago, teams are fitter, stronger and Managers up and down the country crave players who are prepared to the play the pressing game with bundles of energy.
The pressure to win games and to be successful has become overpowering based on the financial rewards on offer now with all the TV money in our game.
People want to see players like N'Golo Kante cover every single blade of grass on that pitch to stop the opposition, players like Nemanja Matic who are strong in addition to being naturally fit in order to compliment someone like Kante playing next to him.
Think back to last season with Fabregas playing next to Matic, it was a nightmare and we became over-ran in that area which caused us numerous problems throughout the season.
What I will say however is that players such as Fabregas, if used in the right formation and in the right way could still have a devastating effect on games as we have seen a couple of times this year so far.
Unfortunately for Cesc this season, the tactical change made by Antonio Conte does not suit his playing style and he has found himself stuck on the bench.
What do you think here? Would you rather than a creative midfielder playing in the heart of our team such as Cesc Fabregas or, do you prefer the current combination we have with Kante and Matic with their dynamic approach instead?
