Antonio Conte to sign contract extension at Chelsea. Your thoughts?

According to reports in Italy, Antonio Conte has agreed and signed a contract extension at Chelsea until 2020 which is excellent news and reward for his outstanding work at our club this season.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season (as long as we finish in the top four) Antonio Conte deserves all the credit in the world for what he has done for our club. To take us from the mess we found ourselves in last year, with virtually the same players apart from a couple of additions, to sit top of the Premier League is fantastic.

We have a chance to repeat The Double this year with Manchester United standing between us and the FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley in addition to a great chance of winning the Premier League for the fifth time and twice in three seasons.

You look at the passion of the man on the sidelines as he kicks and heads every single ball (which as we know is replicated in identical fashion by Roman Abramovich in his box), the demands he makes of his players, the fact that each of them buy into his methods which include hard work on a daily basis but to do it with no drama or negative press throughout has been a breath of fresh air to Chelsea and the Premier League.

If this report is true and he has signed then it's great news as it's clear that we needed to tie him down sooner rather than later having witnessed how he has changed our fortunes this season.

I have said it before on here but if Chelsea do win the Premier League (and hopefully the FA Cup) this season then Antonio Conte will not receive the full credit he deserves because of the fact that we do not play in European competition. Don't get me wrong here, he will still receive plenty of plaudits and rightly so but he would only be judged as he should be by everyone if he was able to repeat the feat in addition to coping with the demands of the Champions League.

He came to this country with a reputation of being one of the best, praised by Pep Guardiola as being one of the most tactically astute managers in the game and of a disciplinarian who gets the best out of his players. Everyone was right!
