The whole Diego Costa situation seems to by dying down now to the point that we can all focus on the football. I am asking you if you think that he should start against Hull on Sunday?
Before you answer there is plenty of things to consider ahead of this weekends game being shown live on SkySports at 16:30 as part of their Super Sunday treble.
Firstly, we have almost forgotten about the players that delivered an excellent performance and result against Leicester on Saturday night. While all the focus seemed to revolve around Costa, the players just kept their heads down, worked hard in training on Antonio Conte's game plan to play with a false nine and delivered exactly what was asked of them. You would have to admit that it would be hard on the likes of Pedro or Willian to step aside now for Hull.
Secondly, there is our run of fixtures coming up including two massive games away at Liverpool in two weeks time, followed by Arsenal at home on 4th February. I get that we do not have to play twice a week because of no European competition but you could argue against playing certain players against Hull followed by Brentford in the FA Cup next week.
Finally you have to think about the Manager here. In my opinion, he has coped and handled the situation fantastically well both behind closed doors and within the glare of the media. We only hear reports of what happens at training with no cameras there but by all accounts he made his feelings known, made it clear that he was not going to take any crap from anyone and despite being our best player this season, dropped Diego Costa which could have backfired on him but didn't.
As the players travelled up to Leicester, Costa was left behind to contemplate a move that would earn him massive wealth, to the point that he could invest and own a site such as online casino nederlandsegokken.nl or that much per week, he could buy a bloody island! However, ONLY in June after Roman Abramovich and the Manager stood firm.
It was a massive statement from the Manager compared to a year ago when the previous Manager could not deal with turmoil inside the dressing room. The fact that all the other players remain onside is key also and now Diego Costa has returned to training all smiles again.
In public, Conte has dealt with his first troublesome situation in front of the media with ease and has maintained his public stance claiming that the player was injured. As we know the British Media will try and coax people into talking about certain situations with all the tricks of the trade to get their soundbite or their story but it simply has not happened. Kudos to Mr Conte!
As far as Conte selecting Costa to start? I am not so sure and we could find Costa having to settle for a place on the bench. It would be the ideal game to get him playing again, to shake off the cobwebs and to refocus his mind ahead of an expected break against Brentford but I wonder if the Manager will want to re-iterate that he is someone not to be messed with here and stick with the players that faced Leicester to whom he praised highly at the weekend.
As with anything, there are arguments for and against Diego Costa starting this weekend. What do you think?
Never liked Costas attitude and would be happy to see him go at the end of the season irrespective of the amount of truth in this latest fiasco. However, he is key to our current line-up and if he's fit/well/happy then he should play on Sunday. Forget Scouserpool and/or Le Arse, Hull is the only game that matters right now and our best eleven should start.
