Antonio Conte's Chelsea team travel to Anfield tonight to kill off Liverpool's title challenge. This is how Chelsea WILL beat Liverpool and extend our lead over the Merseysiders to thirteen points.
Liverpool under the pressure of expectation.
Look at the two sides in comparison heading into the game this evening. Liverpool have suffered three home defeats in a row and have been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions. Defeats to Swansea, Southampton and Wolves have knocked their confidence this past week and their supporters will demand a 100% improvement from Jurgen Klopp and his players this evening.
Only a victory against Chelsea would put Liverpool back into contention and everyone knows it. A draw would leave them ten points off of the pace with both Tottenham and Arsenal next up at Anfield which as we know are also difficult games.
As for Chelsea? We are under no pressure at all apart from the pressures we place on ourselves and the desire to beat Liverpool in their own backyard and avenge the defeat at the Bridge earlier in the season.
We sit top of the Premier League with Liverpool tonight followed by Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime and it could become a pivotal week in the title race.
Set Pieces.
As we have seen in recent weeks, Liverpool cannot defend set pieces and are too weak in the air throughout their side. Matip, Lovren and Can are the only players of notable height in their side that are likely to start compared to those starting for Chelsea - Cahill, Luiz, Matic and Costa. There is an extra man over and it could be key this evening.
It's all about the second ball in the box. If Chelsea can win a flick-on or a knock-down in the box it will cause problems as Fernando Llorente exposed two weeks ago.
A point also to note is that if Mignolet starts in Goal, he is suspect and reluctant to come and grab the ball in the air. If we can box him in we could have some joy with corners this evening.
The Chelsea counter-attack at pace.
Ever since we have started to build up to the game, for some reason, all I can see in my head is Manchester City away at the Etihad earlier in the season - our second half performance. Chelsea are the best counter attacking team in the Premier League at pace it this could prove to be key if, as expected, Liverpool come out looking to attack us, press high and close down in the first half.
The likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro, Willian and Diego Costa will have opportunities to hit Liverpool on the counter in the second half as Liverpool tire from the demands the manager and their fans will place on them from the stands.
We have seen how devastating Chelsea can be when there is space to move the ball quickly and especially when there is space down the channels. Think back to both the Willian and Hazard goals against City, we countered at blistering speed and put the game to bed. The same will probably happen tonight.
Conclusion.
Mark my words, Chelsea WILL beat Liverpool by two goals tonight and extend their lead over Jurgen Klopps side to thirteen points and put an end to their title bid again.
Whether it's from a set piece or from a counter attack, Chelsea will expose the frailties we have witnessed throughout the last week.
Liverpool will come out all guns blazing, the crowd will be up, the manager will demand it and they will tire themselves out by half time.
Chelsea may be forced to play on the back foot for large parts of the first half but trust me, this game will open up in the second half and that's where we will take full advantage.
Chelsea to win 2-0, 3-1 or 4-2.
