Chelsea travel to Anfield to take on title rivals Liverpool tonight with a ten point gap at the top of the Premier League. Here are some quotes from the Liverpool camp ahead of the game.
It's all doom and gloom on the red half of Merseyside at the moment, three defeats in a row at home to Swansea, Southampton and Wolves in the space of a week have turned Liverpool's season on it's head. Jurgen Klopp's side face Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in their next three home games and defeat tonight against Antonio Conte's side would albeit put an end to their title chances.
There's plenty more on the site ahead of the game (so check out the other latest posts after this one) but for now I wanted to focus on quotes coming out of Liverpool ahead of a game they cannot afford to lose. Philippe Coutinho, Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard have all given their opinions ahead of this one:
Philippe Coutinho:
"We have to lift ourselves for Chelsea, that is very important.
We have another opportunity straight away to bounce back, and it is a good opportunity, a big game against Chelsea. That is it.
We have a few days to prepare everything, and to go again and that is what we must do now.
Yes it has been a bad week, but we are looking beyond that. Of course we believe we can win titles under this manager – we are confident that will happen." - Source: Metro.
Jurgen Klopp:
It's an interesting sign of life that it can change in one month, But, of course my job here is really to put out the emotion when I judge situations.
After a bad game, I cannot say 'now we have to get rid of him and change everything.
In this moment we need, especially, as a team, to have faith, belief and all that stuff - that's the main thing in the job: to stay calm and make the right decisions.
We lost a few games we should have won and I think a lot of people think in this moment it could be difficult for Liverpool, and it is difficult, no doubt about this, but possible.
The last week we have lost three home games and that feels less than average, although three different competitions is better than all in one competition.
It's all about point of view and how you want to see it. If you only take these three games and say 'everything is rubbish', I cannot change it.
But for us it's important that we build on the good things.
"I really think we should try everything to make the best of the base we created until now.
Stay positive. There is no reason for anything else. Absolutely not. It will help a lot against Chelsea" - Source: The Daily Post.
Steven Gerrard:
"The whole league needs a win for Liverpool.
If you lose the game, that’s game over in terms of title race. I think everyone will have a Liverpool shirt on come Tuesday night because the likes of Tottenham, United, Arsenal, Man City will all be hoping they get that small glimmer of hope and that chance that Liverpool are search for as well.
You look at what they’ve given away since the start of the season, 11 points is it? I think they could even improve in the second half of the season.
They’ve got the experience, they’ve got the winners in the squad. If they were to win at Anfield, I would be very surprised if they didn’t go on and win it.
It's almost a last-chance saloon to keep the title race alive.
The players, the manager and the staff aren't daft. They know that if the gap goes to 13 points them it's game over. There is a massive difference between seven and 13.” - Source: The Independent.
Make no mistake, the pressure is all on Liverpool tonight as you can tell from the quotes mentioned above. This is a dangerous game but surely, with our confidence and the way we are playing, we have to be considered favourites for the game?
