Having won the Premier League title four times at Chelsea, Petr Cech has a message for his Arsenal team mates and the rest of the chasing pack trying to close the gap on Antonio Conte's side.
With a wealth of experience under his belt including knowing exactly what it takes to win the title, Petr Cech knows how important the next few weeks could be in the title race. The Chelsea Legend made the decision to move to North London two summers ago and finds his club eight points behind us with the sides due to meet each other at Stamford Bridge on 4th February.
Speaking of the title race, Petr Cech said:
"I think it's good that all the teams in the chasing pack keep picking up points.
That way Chelsea will start feeling the pressure from behind. This is probably the best thing for the teams who are chasing.
For us, it is important to keep winning so they don't increase the gap between themselves and us.
That is why the next game, against Burnley, is so important. We need to keep winning and to get as many points as possible.
We need to win all our games because we can't afford to let them make the gap any bigger." - Source: The Independent.
This quote was taken on Saturday after Arsenal had beaten Swansea and ahead of Manchester City being stuffed by Everton, followed by Manchester United and Liverpool sharing the spoils at Old Trafford.
I will admit that the defeat to Tottenham and subsequent drama with Diego Costa (more on him in my next post) had me concerned. Travelling up to Leicester to take on Claudio Ranieri's side with something to prove after an awful season in the Premier League so far could have been a really tough test. However, as we all witnessed, Chelsea came through the game with flying colours and deserved the plaudits they received for a fantastic performance to get what has turned out to be a massive three points.
With Tottenham facing Manchester City this weekend, it's imperative that Chelsea build on their victory at Leicester with a good performance and three points on Sunday against Hull. People focus on the big games, the big battles between the sides fighting for the title/top four but it's these ones that also count as we have seen recently. If Chelsea can pick up another three points then let's see where that takes us ahead of our rivals before we have to travel midweek to face Liverpool in two weeks time followed by Arsenal at home.
I would much rather be where we are now with the destiny of our season in our own hands at this stage than have to play catch-up. The pressure is all on our rivals to try and close the gap now and as each game passes with that not happening, the pressure increases.
We have a big few weeks coming up with an excellent chance to put right the wrongs earlier in the season against Liverpool and Arsenal. Two victories there and we will be hard to catch!
Let's see what happens but we must start with a win against Hull first on Sunday!
Cant wait!!!!!!traveling from Australia to UK just to see the blues take on Liverpool and then few days later watch them against Arsenal!! KTBFFH
