For the second time in this transfer window, Eddie Howe's Bournemouth have been linked with a swoop for one of our own and have a reported £10m bid rejected by Chelsea.
No, it's not John Terry this time, it's actually Asmir Begovic they are after as reports in the media state that they are looking to replace Artur Boruc who is now 36-years-old with the 29-year-old Bosnian targeted as the ideal replacement.
The problem for Bournemouth is that Chelsea are reportedly holding out for a bid of around £12m before they consider selling as they want to make a 50% profit on the £8m they paid to bring him here from Stoke.
You have to feel for the backup Goalkeepers at Stamford Bridge because unless there is a serious injury to our main man, they are faced with little football in the Cup competitions. They have little to focus on these days other than to support the number one and help warm them up in build up to games. It must be so frustrating and they would be better off taking a punt on horse racing betting just for some added excitement compared to spending their careers on the bench. As for being third-choice and being of a certain age? I will never understand that at all. Why on earth Eduardo decided to come here for a season is beyond me.
So what of Asmir Begovic? It's safe to say that last season, despite it being dreadful for all of us, Begovic stood out in those early months with some vital saves to either keep us in games or to keep the scores against us down to a minimum.
One of his strengths is shot-stopping as he has proven in the Premier League at Stoke and also here but the one issue I have with him is that he isn't a big enough presence in his area. Think of Courtois, Cech, Schmeichel and Joe Hart for example, all big personalities and all commanding in their box.
It's about time that Chelsea brought Jamal Blackman back into the fold as a backup to Courtois to give him vital first team experience in the cup competitions and the odd Premier League game.
I can see Bournemouth getting this deal done and Begovic leaving us this month. What do you think?
Not with Courtois possibly going to Real Madrid in the summer !
