Willian has spoken of his decision to pull out of a deal with Tottenham to sign for Chelsea and any thoughts on leaving Chelsea to join Manchester United to reunite with Jose Mourinho.
As the famous Chelsea song goes; "He got the call from Abramovich, and off he went to Stamford Bridge!" and Willian has re-emphasised that fact speaking to Chelsea's You Tube Channel.
When asked of what happened with the stunning late developments he said:
When I came I am very, very happy to play for Chelsea, to win titles here, so I am very, very happy.
Yes, it was difficult. But I didn’t sign. When at the last moment Chelsea call me I say I’m sorry but I go to Chelsea, that’s my dream.
I have to go there, I don’t care. I go there.”
The rest they say is history and Willian has played such an important part of our success ever since he arrived. Even last season when we faced adversity of which we are all aware of, Willian stepped up and was superb for throughout the season and, deservedly on the Player of the Year award.
As we know, Jose Mourinho took over Manchester United in the summer and a number of Chelsea players had been linked with making a move from London to reunite with him. So far that has not happened but the rumours persist and Willian is still being linked in some areas to a possible move having lost his place in the Chelsea side recently to Pedro.
Speaking of the rumours, Willian said:
"I love this club, I enjoy a lot to play here.
My dream is to play for a big club, so now I play here at Chelsea, for a big club and to go to the national team.
But I want more, maybe to win the World Cup - and I want to be one of the best players in the world.
I trust because when I came I know I came to a big club, a club like Chelsea every year or two gets some titles.
So when I came I had no doubts. I want to improve myself, I want to improve more.
Every game I want to play better, I want to help my team-mates score goals, to play well, this season we are doing very well."
The situation Willian currently finds himself in here is a difficult one and through no fault of his own having being given time off to grieve following the unfortunate death of his Mother. Pedro has stepped in and taken his chance with both hands and we have seen just how well he has been playing.
Credit to Willian for coming back, training hard and being ready to play when called upon after such an emotional time. His performance against Manchester City, having replaced Pedro early in the second half was excellent and he took his goal superbly well. If anything, he has now given Antonio Conte a problem ahead of West Brom on Sunday as he must decide if he sticks with Pedro or Willian?
One thing is for sure, I personally love how he openly admits his love of Chelsea and how it was a dream to come here. In the video he talks of knowing how hard he had to work to get into the team when he first came here and it's clear that work ethic has never changed.
There is much more to come from Willian this season and beyond for Chelsea!
