Ex-Chelsea Striker Tony Cascarino has played down Chelsea's performance on Saturday night claiming that Everton were really poor, he also believes we would struggle against Liverpool and Manchester City.
Football is a game of opinions with the majority of influential opinion being of ex-players who have forged a career as a TV Pundit. There are those you respect because of their experience and of their success in their time as a player, knowing what it takes to win titles, to win trophies and to succeed.
However, there are others who for the life of me, I simply cannot understand why anyone would want to listen to? OK, they have played the game but have not a single trophy of note to their names and we are forced to listen to or either read their opinion which doesn't count for anything as far as I am concerned.
Take Tony Cascarino for example, always making himself available for comment on Chelsea to anyone that is willing to listen, despite the fact he only played here for two seasons, making just forty appearances. Why on earth is he ever asked to comment on Chelsea? We all know he is a Liverpool fan so his opinion is always going to be biased. I wouldn't bother listening to him at all if I am honest but it's what he has said here that demonstrates how ridiculous his opinion really is.
When asked of Chelsea's performance on Saturday, one I have stated to be the best I have ever witnessed, and of the fact we are right back into the race for the title, he said:
“I wouldn’t have said a month ago that Chelsea were title contenders.
But now that he has changed his formation, which has fitted well and he has given the freedom to [Eden] Hazard, who can just make things happen, I think they now look a much more dangerous team.
I still don’t know how they are going to handle some very good footballing teams like Manchester City and Liverpool.
I am not sure Chelsea can still do that.
We will have to wait and see on that one.
Everton were really poor on the day against Chelsea at the weekend." - Source Goal.com.
So he blames Everton for being really poor on the day rather than praise our performance? Chelsea were that good, that dominant that Everton could not cope with us and as we have seen in recent weeks, the same has been said of the current Champions Leicester, Jose Mourinho's Manchester United (who were also hammered) and Southampton. I honestly believe 100% that no-one could have lived with the football we played that night as Jonathan Northcroft from the Sunday Times stated.
Everyone will refer to the loss to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago but this is a very different Chelsea team now and if we are to play them again this weekend it will be a different story.
As for Manchester City? We play them in a couple of weeks time and right now, based on the way both teams are playing, I would back us to beat them!
What do you people think?
