Much has been made of Eden Hazard’s form two years ago to the nightmare of last season. Is the form he is showing now the best we have ever seen from him at Chelsea?
Two seasons ago Eden Hazard was named as the Premier League Player of the Year and rightly so. He was outstanding in our title winning season scoring nineteen goals in fifty-two appearances in all competitions.
Last season, Hazard’s form dipped drastically and he suffered a lack of confidence which is hard to believe. He picked up his performances and rediscovered his form towards the end of the season and finished with figures of six goals in forty-three games.
So to this season and what an impact Eden Hazard has already had on the Premier League in the opening couple of months of the season. He started well by scoring goals but disappeared in the two biggest defeats of the season at home to Liverpool and away to Arsenal which was a massive disappointment for all of us.
Since Antonio Conte made the tactical switch to our 3-4-3 system giving Hazard the licence to roam around the pitch and to come inside an influence the game more, he has been sensational. Hazard has scored in our last four games running which is something he has never achieved before and now has seven goals in fourteen appearances so far.
The player himself has always spoken of his dream to win the Ballon D’or before he ends his career. To make the shortlist for the award was the first step, with the next step being shortlisted in the final five and Hazard has revealed that is his aim this year.
He spoke of his dream and of his new role under Conte and said:
“Last season I was not good, so for me it was normal that I was not on the list. But I want to come back on the list, and give everything to be on the list, not to be in the top 23 but to be in the top five. Yes, I want to reach that level.
Last season was difficult for me. I tried to be the same player that I was two years ago.
But now I am trying to play like when I was a kid. I am enjoying playing now, my position is a bit different from before, I go inside more. It gives me more freedom, and am good for the moment.
Conte has not change a lot, it is just that I have a little bit more freedom when we have the ball and without the ball.
Because I don’t need to defend against the right-back, because Marcos Alonso is there. I just focus on staying in my position. And when I have the ball I have more freedom and I can go where I want to go, and be decisive.” - Source: The Mirror.
