In all the years I have been going to Stamford Bridge to support Chelsea that was the best team performance I have ever seen.
Heading into the ground on Saturday evening I had a feeling that Chelsea would win with there being three goals in the game whether that would be 3-0 or 2-1 I was quietly confident that despite it being on paper a hard game, Chelsea would come out on top. Little did anyone or I expect what played out in front of us.
If last week’s away performance against Southampton had been described as the perfect away performance, this was ten times better. Chelsea were majestic in every way and to a man on that pitch and I would even go as far to describe the performance as sublime.
Everton were totally outclassed on the night and beaten by a team at the top of their game. I honestly do not think that Everton fans would even look to dig deep into their performance to try and look at where the game was lost because it would detract from such a good Chelsea performance. It’s a game they would hold their hands up to acknowledge exactly that and look to move on as quickly as possible.
Talking to friends after the game we all felt the same, in complete shock, almost at a loss for words to comprehend what we had just witnessed. You think back to a month or so ago and how bad we were at Arsenal to watching this performance being light years apart and it’s a struggle to accept just how different we are now. It’s a struggle to accept that not only have we turned the corner, we have won five games in a row, we have kept five clean sheets in a row with no one looking like they would be able to break us down and in those five games we have scored sixteen goals.
We look so solid defensively, in midfield we look the same, we have excellent width and up front we have players who have the ability to kill you. We look the complete team with a perfect balance.
Eden Hazard is right back where has was two seasons ago and is loving life at the moment. Given the freedom he has always craved, he can express himself even more so in this new system as we have witnessed of late. His goals were excellent and his overall performance faultless.
Diego Costa works so, so hard up top and is another at the top of his game. He looks fitter and sharper than ever, he’s scoring goals and it’s amazing to see.
Out wide in Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso, Chelsea has a real threat with both working hard up and down each side. They work hard defensively but are willing to get forward to support the team. Both outstanding again and great to see Alonso score his first goal.
Pedro is another playing excellent of late and looking somewhere near his best. He has taken the chance given to him by Conte and grabbed it with both hands. Also scoring goals and working hard, he isn’t quite getting the plaudits he deserves.
N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic play such an important role and have performed for Antonio Conte perfectly. Both dominant on Saturday night.
Our back three were untroubled with Everton managing just a single attempt on goal compared to our tally of twenty-two. With the ball they spread themselves to give themselves as an option to pass to whilst without the ball they get into their defensive shape to make it difficult to breakthrough. It’s a credit to Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill that in this run of five games since the tactical change, you can count on one hand any instances where we have been caught out or looked in danger of conceding any goals.
I can talk about the game all day but would much rather read your comments to get your opinions on what was the best ever Chelsea performance. What did you think of the game?
Saturday night was one to remember and has sent out a warning to the rest of the Premier League. Chelsea are back and are right in this title race this season!
