Life as a Chelsea fan at the moment has taken a considerable turn for the better in the last five games but according to reports, Antonio Conte is looking to build by spending big in January with full backing from Roman Abramovich.
It's common knowledge that Conte was frustrated in the summer as the club failed to bring in the players he wanted but now, after a drastic change in fortunes and talk of his future at the club being a distant memory, Roman Abramovich has instructed his aides to back the manager as he looks to strengthen his team for the second half of the season and beyond.
As plenty of you would have seen of late, there are a number of Chelsea players being linked with a move away from the club possibly in January but in the summer. John Obi Mikel has reportedly been told that his is free to leave and does not feature in Conte's plans, Cesc Fabregas could be loaned out in January to West Ham and Branislav Ivanovic another who could leave in the next transfer window with West Ham and Crystal Palace potential suitors.
The Telegraph has reported that Conte wants to sign three players, another midfielder, a central defender and another left back with a whole host of players being linked with a possible move.
If you look at those players who are not starting games for Chelsea at the moment, on the fringes of first team action on the bench and even those not named in the squad every week, Conte does have a number of options to consider. For example, look throughout the squad at the players that could come in, Zouma is on his way back to fitness in addition to John Terry, Ola Aina and Ivanovic in our defence. Mikel, Nathaniel Chalobah, Cesc Fabregas and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are alternative options in the heart of our midfield and in attacking areas we have the likes of Oscar, Willian, Dominic Solanke and Michy Batshuayi all waiting to step in. The problem some of them now have is the shift in formation to 3-4-3 and how Conte see's them fitting in.
In any transfer window it is vital that you bring players in to improve the options you already have. For example, if you lose Cesc Fabregas, I would like to see someone of the same quality come in or if he is to be replaced by a player who plays in a different role, someone just as effective in their position. We cannot afford to buy someone for the sake of it.
The change in Chelsea fortunes has been fantastic of all of us after Arsenal. I believe that it's even better for the manager and now puts him in favour with Abramovich to get exactly what he wants in moving forward having demonstrated how effective his management of players that he doesn't necessarily want has become here.
Expect changes in January both in and out. Who do you think would leave in January and who would you like to see come in to improve the team?
