Gianfranco Zola believes that Antonio Conte and Chelsea have a chance to record two statement victories against Leicester and Manchester United to put our season back on track after setbacks against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Without question, Chelsea head into these two fixtures as must win games this early in the season and that’s purely because of our two previous defeats. Chelsea and Conte cannot afford to lose either or both of these games because the pressure on us would intensify. Chelsea would face a real battle on their hands to get anywhere near the top four if that was to happen which for all of us would be a total disaster.
If anything, the international break has come at such a bad time for the manager and his players. After a week of intensive work on a new defensive formation and tactics, the majority of his squad left Cobham for ten days to focus on their national teams. As a result, Conte will have only two full days to prepare his team to take on Leicester this Saturday lunchtime at Stamford Bridge.
There has been a general consensus of opinion of Antonio Conte since his appointment that he will work as hard as anyone with his players to find the right solution. Intense training sessions and hard graft is what he demands from his players and Chelsea Legend Gianfranco Zola believes that with the change in formation for Hull in our last game, there are signs that Chelsea will improve. He said:
“Conte would prefer it if these two fixtures did not come straight after the international break, when so many of his players were away.
But Chelsea will still be strong. They started the season very well and then had a setback, but they are picking up again. Sometimes, losing can help you improve.
It will be important for Chelsea how quickly they can adapt to the new system Conte has introduced. I know he is a very hard-working coach, and I am sure they will be doing everything to make this work.
After losing their two biggest games so far this season, I am sure Chelsea will see this as an opportunity to make a statement in their next two games.” – Source: The Mirror.
Zola is right. Chelsea must continue to work hard and look to improve from one game to another. In time, with hard work on the training ground everyday, Chelsea will become the team Antonio Conte believes we can be; to hopefully challenge for the title once again.
What better way to continue our improvement than to record a win against the Champions Leicester managed by Ex-Chelsea Boss Claudio Ranieri, followed by another three points against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
