We heard the rumour late on Tuesday night and were told that it was simply a pipe-dream yesterday morning. However, after Chelsea's bid was rejected by PSG, David Luiz personally express his desire to rejoin Chelsea to the PSG President and here we are - he is back!!
The financial details remain unclear but it's believed that PSG owe Chelsea outstanding money from signing him two years ago, with that and his desire to come back to the club, it's believed that the total fee agreed is around £34m which at least a third of that monies owed by PSG being waved as part of the agreement. Whatever the financial stipulations are, it's fantastic news for Chelsea and I cannot believe we have got this deal done. Full credit goes to Luiz!
Speaking to Chelsea TV last night he said:
"It's fantastic to have this second opportunity to play for this club, I love this club so that's why I am here, so let's try and continue the nice history and try to get success.
In football everything can happen, everybody knows I have a feeling for this club, everybody knows that so today am I very, very happy to be here.
It will be an amazing opportunity to show the fans again that I love this club and I love to play for this club so I cannot wait to wear this shirt and play at Stamford Bridge again.
We need to (titles) again, I am hungry to win again, of course I want to win the Premier League but of course I want to win all the titles again.
I am here because I have ambition to play for a big club and when you play for a big club, you have to think about winning every single match.
(To the Chelsea fans) - I am back! I cannot wait to see you guys and give back to you what you gave to me in the first period I was here. Let's enjoy!"
It's great to hear from him and especially talk of his affection for the club and the Supporters. There are big money moves in the game but for a player to openly express his desire to rejoin a club because he feels that he has unfinished business is something to behold these days.
People are already talking of Luiz being a liability and of mistakes he makes but if anyone can drive that out of him it's Antonio Conte. Think of Luiz with N'Golo Kante in front of him, think of Luiz giving his all after hardly training for a month in the Champions League Final for us - David Luiz is and can be world class.
He offers us something different at the back, he offers us something with the ball at his feet and believe it or not, he does not get the credit he deserves for reading the game playing out in front of him.
What I am looking forward to is seeing that passion in him alongside Antonio Conte and Diego Costa and cannot wait to see it on that pitch. Football needs characters and David Luiz is definitely one in that dressing room. I would not be surprised if Luiz finds himself named in the team for our next game against Swansea in a weeks time so get your premier league weekend predictions ready here!
Make no mistake, David Luiz comes back to Chelsea a different and a mature player with those extra years experience under his belt. With the right Manager in Conte who as we know is a tactical genius, Luiz will fly and put to bed any opinion of him being a liability.
If you ask me, David Luiz is one of the signings of the season alongside N'Golo Kante!
What do you think of the news that he has re-signed for Chelsea and personally forced the move back to Stamford Bridge!?
