Up and down the country, pre-season has started as each club prepares for what looks to be the hardest and most exciting season ever. Where would you place your free bets for the new Premier League football season?
Make no mistake, for Antonio Conte just as with ALL the Premier League Managers, they have a job on this season to achieve success of any kind because of a number of factors this year.
Firstly the financial rewards for just playing in the competition in addition to the monies offered from the new TV deal have sky rocketed. Every single club will benefit and will have plenty of money to strengthen their squads. We will no longer see one of the so-called lesser clubs being easy pickings anymore because they can go out and spend £20-£25m on players these days without having to worry about their financial stability. Compare these sides expected to be fighting relegation this season with the same 20 or so years ago and the difference is frightening but that's just how far our game has changed.
If you then look at the Managerial changes that have happened over the summer and it's clear this could be the biggest EVER season. Who would have thought we would have Pep Guardiola here at the same time as Jose Mourinho? Who would have thought that they would be managing together in Manchester with that particular derby looking better than ever? Expect fireworks between these two as the season pans out.
Pep Guardiola needs to prove himself which is a ridiculous statement really but he does. It's all well and good being the manager of Barcelona who are always going to challenge for domestic and European trophies, but to then "choose" to go to Bayern Munich which is more or less the same in Germany is easy. Coming to Manchester City and especially now, will give him a chance to prove exactly what he can do as a manager but as we all know, he is in for a shock as anyone can literally beat anyone on their day.
Jose Mourinho at Manchester United? It was always on the cards really wasn't it. I love the man and what he has done for our club, with the foundations he put in place for the most successful period of our history. However, he has been sacked twice now and we move on.
What I am looking forward to is how Manchester United (meaning the club and it's fans) will react to the baggage that comes with him in his press conferences etc. Let's also not forget that as we know, he will play to win even if that means not the best football to grab a vital 1-0 win. I'm looking forward to his fallout with Guardiola, with Klopp because of the Liverpool/United rivalry and with Arsene Wenger as usual having already made a dig at him in his opening press conference.
Leicester and Tottenham will be strong again and will challenge for the top four along with Chelsea hopefully. The fact that WE have no European involvement this season will help our chances. Liverpool will be there or there abouts and Arsenal will flatter to decieve one again.
The top six and mid-table will be a real battle for places with West Ham being the outstanding candidate to make a real stride forward this year possibly into the Champions League. Everton and Southampton will all want to push forward with the likes of Crystal Palace, Stoke and Bournemouth looking to build on last season.
The battle for relegation is up for debate with the promoted teams being given a massive chance to stay in this league because of the money they will receive this season. Some will argue that it's an even bigger divide between the Premier League and the Championship and I do get that but as we all know the Premier League is the place to be.
Burnley, Hull and Middlesborough are back in the big time and it will be interesting to see if they can survive this time around as the join the likes of Watford, West Brom, Sunderland and Swansea facing a fight to stay in the League.
