It's seems that Pep Guardiola will not have everything his own way this summer after a massive £38m bid for Leonardo Bonucci was rejected by Juventus. Reports state that he fancies a move to Chelsea to team up with Antonio Conte.
Bonucci was one of the standout performers for Juventus in recent seasons and this summer for Italy at Euro 2016. A talented and disciplined performer, he very rarely puts a foot wrong.
Chelsea's issues at the back last season are well documented with all of our players out of form and not performing anywhere near we expected.
Everyone knows that for any team to be successful, you MUST have a solid foundation at the back to build on and that was our downfall last season. With Conte being Italian and the reputation for being solid in defence that will follow, a move for Bonucci would be welcome for me.
It looks as though Chelsea would have to pay a fee of around £50m to try and lure Juventus into doing business (with a possible reduced fee being negotiated if we can throw in Juan Cuadrado into the mix) and if the player has an intent to come to England, then I can see this happening. However, we need to try and understand if these reports have any real substance.
In my opinion, if it's going to take that amount of money to sign Leonardo Bonucci at 29, then I am all for it based on him playing a major role in taking Chelsea back into the promised land of the Champions League. As we know looking ahead to this season with no European competition, that is priceless and we have a real job on to get back into the top four with what appears to be the most difficult and keenly contested Premier League season ever.
What do you think of the City bid being rejected and the player favouring a move to Chelsea?
