England - English clubs in Europe - Can someone answer me this question?

Why do we not play our games at Premier League pace? It's my main gripe when it comes to watching England in the Euro's, with Chelsea and other English teams in the Champions League. Why on earth do we allow ourselves to get drawn into a slower tempo which suits the opposition?

Look at England last night, what a joke that was and Roy Hodgson deserves all the stick he is getting being honest. Why didn't we set our stall out to go and attack Iceland despite the fact they had prepared for it and were happy to sit back and defend? Knowing we were in the knockout stages where only a win will do, why not go 4-4-2, play players in the correct positions and stick the two most prominent goal scorers in the Premier League (Kane and Vardy) up top together and really take the game to them at our pace?

Instead, we get sucked into a low tempo, Iceland sit with two banks of our and challenge England to break them down which as we all know did not happen!

It's the same in the Champions League with the English clubs and our poor performances of the past few years. Again I ask the question why do we not take our game, the fast and physical football we sit and watch every week, into Europe when we take on these teams? Ok, we may have to calm down the physicality but we can still play at pace because we know these sides would struggle to live with us.

It's about time that our mentality abroad changes. What do we have to be scared of? Why do we consider ourselves inferior and adopt a defensive game when the general concensus of opinion is that we have the best and most exciting league in the world?

Someone tell me because I simply cannot understand it!
