Diego Costa remains a wanted man in La Liga and by Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone after he has agreed to stay on at the club. Reports in Spanish Newspaper AS state that the club intend to back him significantly as he looks to build on last season.
The problem for Simeone is that Atletico value the player at £30m but Chelsea are only willing to sell him if firstly he wants to leave, and secondly if they can make a profit on what they signed him for which was a fee of £32m. Chelsea reportedly are asking for £40m to do business.
I have to say that Costa is one of those players that I can see leaving the club which is a shame. As I posted here, it just seems like he has never settled into our way of life over here and if given the opportunity to go back, I think he would grab it with both hands.
I keep saying it so apologies if you are a regular visitor to the site, but Chelsea and Conte need to keep hold of as many of their best players as possible if we are to make a realistic challenge to get back into the top four this season. As I have posted up already this morning, we are about to lose one of those in Nemanja Matic and we cannot afford to lose more!
What I will say however is that looking at the way the Conte set up his Italian side to beat Belgium the other night, Costa could really kick on under the Italian who seems to have the same mentality as Costa if you watched his Interview posted here. He states that he likes the Verb "To fight!" which would resonate with Costa who made a point of saying the same to John Terry and others when he first arrived.
I guess the problem we have with the players is that last season was a nightmare and for the club to miss out on any European Football this coming season could have implications with the likes of Costa who want to feature in the biggest club competition in the world.
If Conte can convince Costa to stay it would be a huge victory for all of us but according to these reports from AS, it seems that Atletico will do their utmost to take him back to La Liga.
We sit and wait to see what happens!
