Alexandre Pato was wasted at Chelsea in my opinion and the player himself has spoken out over the lack of first team involvement under Guus Hiddink. Unfortunately, he leaves us with this reminder in what has turned out to be his only goal for Chelsea.
Speaking recently, Pato spoke of his time at Chelsea and a conversation he had with Guus Hiddink about playing time. He said:
"I was in his office. I asked to talk, I explained my situation. He was very sincere: 'Pato, you came at a time when our players were injured. Now they're coming back, and I'm very loyal to my players'.
I understand the coach's decision. I arrived at a time when the group was closed, battling for a place in the Champions league, in decisive games... I was hoping to play more, but I understand the coach's decision.
I do not regret [moving to Stamford Bridge]. Chelsea received me very well. I could play, scored a goal, I showed that I can play in Europe, in England. Because many say that England is very difficult. [But] I was hoping to play more."
I say that he was wasted here because he was. He showed what he could offer us in the absence of Diego Costa against Aston Villa by scoring one and having a hand in two others (with fantastic link up play with Oscar and Willian in particular) but he was ignored by Hiddink.
I am sure that he will stay in Europe and prove to those people that doubt him that he still has fantastic ability and can become a star striker, scoring goals once again.
What do you think of Pato? Would you have played him more or do you agree with Hiddink? Would you keep him?
