It's taken a few weeks but it seems that Antonio Conte and Roman Abramovich have started work on rebuilding Chelsea ahead of the new season with the Owner personally taking time out to watch Alvaro Morata against Croatia.
The Spanish Striker has just re-signed for Real Madrid for around £24m after the Spanish side took up the option to activate the buy-back clause they had previously inserted in the deal that took him to Juventus for £16m. The general opinion is that they have done so because they believe that based on current form/reputation over the past few seasons, they can make a healthy profit by selling him on for over £30m this summer with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal interested.
So what of Morata? Well I really like him and his willingness to work hard for his team stands out above most. We have all seen what he has done over the past two years at Juventus and his performances in the Champions League in particular. Just think back to this past seasons competition as Juventus took on FC Bayern Munich. He dominated their defence in the return leg in Germany and Juventus were more than in control in the game. It was only after he was substituted that the whole game changed and Bayern were able to press forward, score and go through.
His movement is excellent, as I said work rate is phenomenal and he scores goals. In my view, I would prefer to pay around £30-35m for him than splash out up to £65m on Romelu Lukaku!
He is such a talented player and if you watched the video above, what a team player also. I didn't realise just how quick he is as time and time again you see him literally glide passed defenders and leave them for dead. In addition, he has two great feet and can score with both which is always an added bonus!
There are reports that Chelsea have opened talks with Real Madrid to try and secure his signing which will be the first major one for us this summer. I sincerely hope that this is the case as the fact that Roman Abramovich has personally watched him with Antonio Conte due to run the rule over him as Italy take on Spain in the coming days, I just wonder if we can get this done as quickly as possible!
This in my view is who we should be looking to sign and not Lukaku!
What do you think!
