Dan Levene a respected Chelsea Journalist has posted an article following up on the Chelsea contract offer to John Terry and has revealed the shocking terms the club have offered. I want to try and understand what YOU would do if you were JT?
As I posted the other day, JT has led us through the most successful period in our history and has literally won it all. Time and time again, he has been the rock and the foundation our team has been built on. Players have come and gone over the past twelve years but our Captain, Leader, Legend still remains.
In fact, and I will stand by this statement ahead of England's attempt to win Euro 2016, John Terry remains the best English Defender in the Premier League and if he hadn't retired from international football, he would have been one of the first names on our team sheet. I just hope that the TV pundits do not have to mention his name too much, too soon!
So the current standoff between club and player. Why is it happening? Well according to Dan Levene who has written a column for Eurosport has his opinion which as I have said, is more than reliable. He says:
"Terry is said to be legitimately torn between staying and moving on for a new life and a two-year deal in China. But the difference between what is on offer there, and the contract served up to him by Chelsea is stark.
He is expected to be able to double his present money, from £150k to £300k a week, should he go to Beijing or Shanghai. He has made several trips out to China, and is believed to be in quite advanced stages of negotiations over a deal that would make him a household name in the world's most populous country.
It is a deal that involves the resettlement of his family, plus more or less as many flights home as he might like in order to maintain his link with the UK. Compare that with the Chelsea offer, which would mean a cut in pay to something like £60k a week – a fifth of his potential earnings in the Chinese Premier League.
As well as the money, though, Terry has a strong belief that at the age of 35 he still has much to offer on the pitch. Even in his admittedly declining state, he could probably hold down any position from one to 11 in any Chinese Premier League Club – as opposed to the extremely limited playing time which seems on offer at Chelsea."
It's believed that he has been told he would be our FOURTH choice centre back next season which is why he is torn with going or staying. Why on earth after what he has achieved, contemplate spending his second to last season on the bench and not getting anything like a look-in? It's a total lack of respect in my eyes and unforgivable. JT will be the first to admit that money is no motivation but it's his standing within the squad.
With JT meeting Chelsea and an announcement expected soon, I am asking you the Chelsea supporter reading this as to what YOU would do if you were JT right now? Despite your affection and affinity with us, would you accept what is being offered?
