Chelsea travel to Anfield tomorrow night to take on Liverpool and for the first time in years I am dreading this one. I cannot stand the thought of losing to this lot and for those people that think this is a nothing game for us - you couldn't be more wrong!
Those Chelsea fans of a certain age will speak of Tottenham and Leeds being our fierce rivals and understandably so. However, those that are not in the same age bracket would feel that Liverpool are viewed the same after the ding-dong battles we have had over the last decade or so.
"You ain't got no history" is often sung to us these days and being honest it's getting boring and his no effect. If you look at the last decade, our club has written the modern blueprint and have delivered successes that we could only ever dream of 30 years ago. It's been the most successful period in our history and now unfortunately, we have come out the other side with our worst league position in years.
The danger for all of us is that we follow what happened to Liverpool at the end of Rafa the Gaffer's reign at Anfield. He joined with players that were world class and rightly so up their fighting for trophies. He left the club with a squad that was mediocre to say the least and never replaced key players. Liverpool as we know suffered a severe decline in fortune and found themselves languishing outside the top four for a few years. It's only recently that Brendan Rodgers and now Jurgen Klopp have invested wisely (Klopp will continue to do so this summer) and have been back up there with the Irishman finishing second just a few seasons ago!
Its impertative that we try and hold onto as many of our top players as possible (with one exception - Courtois) as we will need to ensure we are strong enough to fight for the top four again this next season. We simply cannot afford to be without Champions League football for longer than a year.
Chelsea come into the game off the back of another poor demonstration of defending at Sunderland and the hosts fully deserved their victory. Unfortunately, the Chelsea players on display that day decided to take a lazy, can't be bothered approach to closing the ball down and we paid for it not one, twice but THREE times!
I am fed up and bored of the same shit from Guus Hiddink! How many more times are we going to see the same players go out there and only lift themselves for the big games this season? If he picked the same players tomorrow night, I would put my mortgage on them giving a very different level of performance because to us, this is a big game!
I want to see us mix things up. We can't finish any higher than ninth this season so why not give it a go and take the game to Jurgen Klopp's side?
I would like us to attack from the start but play a solid basic 4-4-2 formation. Thibaut Courtois can do one as far as I am concerned so I would put Begovic in goal. Cesar Azpilicueta at right back, Miazga and Cahill at centre back with Kenedy at left back. Stick Eden Hazard left wing, Fabregas and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the middle with Traore on the right and give Costa and Falcao a start together up front because let's not forget, they used to play up top together for Atletico Madrid!
My starting eleven to confirm as below:
Begovic, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Miazga, Kenedy, Traore, Fabregas, Loftus-Cheek, Hazard, Costa and Falcao.
Who do YOU think should start?
This game means something to me. Chelsea's team selection means something to me and most importantly of all, our performance still means something to me even though our season is gone!
Guus Hiddink, don't let me down!
