The Argentina international netted an incredible 38 goals in 46 appearances this season and has attracted plenty of attention from Europe’s top clubs. Chelsea have been linked with a move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku but Higuain may be Conte’s preferred choice, especially as reports suggest that the striker is pushing for his huge £72 million release clause to be lowered to around £45 million.
If Higuain is available for less than £50 million, he has to become Chelsea’s number one target in the transfer window. As of May 22nd, Everton are asking for around £65 million for Lukaku and Blues supporters would much prefer Conte to bring Higuain into the club. While the Belgium striker has matured into a top talent, he simply cannot compete with Higuain in terms of quality and natural ability.
With Higuain leading the line, Chelsea will be quietly confident of securing the Premier League title next season. At the time of writing, Premier League odds show Conte’s side are 11/2 to win the crown – and they will certainly stand a much better chance with the Argentinian in attack. Diego Costa has struggled for form this season and may look for a move away from the club after his fall from grace in recent months.
Chelsea will have to fight off plenty of competition for Higuain’s signature and the lack of Champions League football may mean the Blues have to offer the 28-year-old a lucrative contract this summer. Realistically, Higuain would prefer a move to one of Europe’s elite sides but money talks. If Conte can acquire Higuain, there’s no reason why the Blues cannot return to the summit of European football and regain their rightful place in the Champions League next season.
On current form, the Argentina man is one of the best out-and-out strikers in world football and Conte would have another world class talent at his disposal if he was to move to Stamford Bridge. At just 28 years old, Higuain still has plenty to offer Chelsea and he certainly has the skillset to suggest he would be nothing but a huge success in the Premier League. After all, the former Real Madrid star has showcased his quality on the big stage for both club and country and he has enough talent to lead Chelsea back to the top.
Gonzalo Higuain to Chelsea is not beyond the realms of possibility. We’re not saying it is going to happen but Conte is known to be a big fan of the Argentine and he could move for the striker this summer. If nothing else, it’s going to be an exciting summer for Chelsea supporters.
