It's a subject that will divide opinion amongst the public and especially those who do not follow Chelsea. In saying that, it would more than likely divide opinion amongst our own but John Terry IS STILL England's best defender.
All the crap in the past is done with. Everything that has needed to be said has been and John Terry has moved on, we have moved on and football has moved on.
All that matters in the Euros this summer is the football and what happens on that football pitch BUT, as we know, the press will see things differently and if he did return for a final swan song, they would fill the pages with more crap for the duration.
If I am totally honest, I couldn't give a toss about England in the Euros this summer and that's because we still have a Muppet in charge! How anyone fails to qualify from the group stages at the World Cup into the knockout rounds and still remains in the job is beyond me! England need a manger with a winning mentality to take over, someone who get the most of his players and can instill the right mentality into the players. Not some powder puff old fart who hasn't really achieved all that in the game!
I digress.....
So to John Terry and do I think he should return? Well of course I do and that's not because I am biased. The simple fact remains that looking at the options we have available to provide the foundation the team builds from worries me. Chris Smalling - one of the first names on the team sheet? Do me a favour! John Stones? Really?
In any football team you need leaders and when I say that I mean natural leaders who are born like it, not people that have to try and be that person because they are not. JT is the best there is and besides that, he is an organiser and someone to talk people through games.
Yes he is 35 now and has lost that yard of pace. How quick was Bobby Moore? It's all upstairs inside that football brain of his and his positional sense makes up for what he lacks in pace.
Despite the crap other people will spout off about JT's past, I want to take a section of what was written in one particular article here, just to re-iterate why John Terry should be at the Euros this summer. It reads:
"The sad, indicting fact that Terry is even in the conversation for a return is the one that's most blindingly obvious. He is so much better than anything else England can trot out in France.
Terry has played more than 100 Champions League games and helped Chelsea win the competition in 2012, even if he wasn't on the field. He has four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, the League Cup three times and the Europa League. He's played in finals, semi-finals and the quarter-finals of big international tournaments. He has 78 caps and is a former England captain (twice) with more than 700 career games. There's no one currently available who can match his experience, record of winning or desire to win.
On the pitch he was named in the Premier League Team of the Year only last season. This year his performance has slipped, like every player in Blue, but he's still been Chelsea's best defender and absolutely deserves a new contract to continue at Stamford Bridge next season. Chelsea look like a completely different, unorganised mess when he doesn't play."
You could say, the Author has got it spot on! What do you think?
