According to reports, despite not being confirmed as Chelsea Manager, Antonio Conte has told Roman Abramovich that Diego Costa is NOT to be allowed to leave in the summer!
Excellent news if there is substance in the reports but pointless all the same in my view. Once a player has made his mind up to leave (no one is saying he has as yet by the way), there is no point in trying to convince him to stay. The most important thing for Chelsea this summer is to prepare a squad for next season with people that want to be here.
It's seems as though Diego Simeone wants to bring Costa back to La Liga and is willing to splash the cash to do so and that is a concern for me.
Don't get me wrong, I love Diego Costa and the way he plays as much as the next person but you do have to ask yourselves the question "has he really settled into life here?" I would have to say "no" looking from the outside in as he still doesn't speak English which is a massive indication of acceptance of the lifestyle and culture.
As I stated at the top of the article, it's all down to player once the season has finished. Without Champions League football and with new management, Costa will more than likely decide to leave and it's only natural that if Simeone comes calling, he would want to go back to where he is most comfortable as Filipe Luis did last summer.
I have stated it before but this summer is massive for everyone at the club because we need a squad good enough to challenge for the top four as a minimum next season. Diego Costa would one of the players I would want to keep but I just can't see it happening despite the reports from Conte.
