Antonio Conte was spotted in London yesterday ahead of a scheduled meeting with Chelsea later today to sign on the dotted line to become our new manager with an announcement to follow shortly afterwards.
Right now it's rumour and speculation but according to Sky Italia, the deal is done and Conte is already here just waiting to sign. The reported backroom staff issues seem to be resolved and it will be interesting to see what happens.
I had posted at the weekend that I couldn't understand why this whole process has been dragging on into one of the worst kept secrets in Football. I compared our situation to that of Manchester City who, with no messing about, got the deal done for Pep Guardiola as quickly as possible, confirmed the announcement to the world and then got on with the rest of the season. I could see no reason as to why Chelsea would not do the same?
Reports all over Social Media and the Internet last night of course claim that a deal will be done and dusted tomorrow but thinking about it, I am not so sure that Chelsea would want to make any announcement ahead of the season being completed?
In my opinion, we all know that Guus Hiddink will NOT be here beyond the last game of the season and as far as having anything to play for, realistically our season is over but in my view getting the deal done and making that announcement to the world NOW gives everyone clarity and they know exactly where they stand. Not only that but the players would know that they are playing for their futures beyond this season with the Conte taking a watching brief.
Let's get it done and out in the open so we can prepare ourselves for next season!
