Paul Pogba a rumoured Chelsea target has spoken of his ambition to emulate the stunning record of Frank Lampard at Chelsea, to win more trophies and has spoken of his plans beyond this season. Pogba has also responded to the link to Chelsea and the Premier League which makes very interesting reading.
This isn't the first time that Pogba has been linked to Chelsea. Pogba is a player that many of us admire and it's natural to put two and two together now that Antion Conte has been appointed as the new Chelsea manager, having taken Pogba to Juventus first of all. The problem Chelsea face is the amount of money it would take to force Juventus to sell one of their prized assets and for the player himself to sacrifice playing Champions League football for a season as Chelsea look to get back into biggest European competition next year.
So to the man himself and he was asked of the goals he wants to achieve, this summer and of a possible move to the Premier League. He said:
‘I’ve only won four Scudetti.
They’re not enough for me. I’ve always been like this, people called me crazy but I want to make history and become the strongest midfielder ever.
I’d like to surpass [Frank] Lampard. I want to be the midfielder who can do everything, and at the highest levels. Shooting, dribbling, scoring, defending. I want to be like Lampard, but better.
As for money, I know it comes and goes. I’d be lying if I said it makes no difference not having it, but I see it as a consequence of hard work.
The stronger you are, the more you make. Ronaldo deserves the pay he gets, it’s not like he steals it.
As for my future, I want to beat Carpi, then I want the Coppa Italia, and then Euro 2016 in France.
After that, I have a contract with Juventus, I can’t just get up one morning and take a plane to England. Ask the people who work in the transfer department’.
I cannot see Pogba emulating Frank Lampard as he isn't the same type of player in my eyes. Lampard was always more attack minded and had the knack of arriving late into the box just at the right time. Pogba is very different and has more of a laid back approach to the way he plays.
Pogba's stats so far compared to the Chelsea Legend are as follows:
Pogba - 182 appearances to date - 34 goals
Lampard - 648 appearances - 211 goals.
Without question, Paul Pogba is one of European football's biggest names and if he was to become available this summer, Chelsea would do well to try and lure him to the Bridge ahead of other European big-guns who would also be well interested in his services.
There is little doubt that he will win more trophies throughout the remainder of his career and hopefully that will be with Chelsea if Antonio Conte can work his magic and bring Pogba with him.
Being honest, I cannot see Pogba leaving Juventus this summer unless it was for big, big money and with financial fair play now being an important factor, Chelsea may have to look elsewhere.
