Baba Rahman hasn't exactly made an impact since his arrival at Stamford Bridge and but for the arrival of Guus Hiddink, would have found his first team opportunities hard to come by. As a result, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have made the Ghanaian defender a prime target this summer. Chelsea would do well to recoup the £14m they paid for him!
He came here with an impressive reputation but we can all admit that we knew very little of him. The press gave coverage to our new signing and highlighted the fact that he made more tackles that anyone else in the Bundesliga (108 winning 90 of them).
As I have said numerous times before, new players to this country and this league need games and time to get used to things to settle down. Some would argue that he has that of late to which I understand but it's those first four or five months of the season that could have made a difference in my eyes.
For whatever reason, Jose Mourinho stuck with his decision to play Branislav Ivanovic at right back and Cesar Azpilicueta as left back throughout the nightmare period the team was having. If anything, the very first game against Swansea as Ivanovic was roasted time and time again should have forced Mourinho's hand to switch Azpilicueta back over to the right in his natural position, to then bring Baba in. As we know that didn't happen.
He has had a run of games under Guus Hiddink but that's down to injuries to the rest of our defence and for the most part he has done OK. He has made some costly mistakes (at the time) which he will learn from as he develops his game but it seems that is likely to be away from Stamford Bridge.
What do you think of Baba?
