Despite the clubs insistence that communication between themselves and John Terry are not closed, he still has not been offered a new deal beyond this season. If Antonio Conte is appointed as Manager, that could take a dramatic turn in JT's favour.
Various reports are appearing on a daily basis about potential departures at Stamford Bridge in addition to potential signings, as the press go into overdrive. Speculation is rife and will remain so right up to the end of the transfer window in August so be prepared as Chelsea look to establish themselves as a top four side next season. You can find odds on whether or not JT will remain at Chelsea beyond this season at onlinewedden.com.
One story that he has a constant for the past few months has been the situation regarding John Terry's contract and the fact that he not been offered one. The player himself has spoken out on various occasions to state the same despite the club denying this is the case with many of the opinion that the club wants to wait to appoint a new manager before a final decision is made about our Captain.
So to Antonio Conte and at the moment the press are drawing up all sorts of conclusions as to how he would want to approach managing Chelsea with much emphasis on the tactics he would look to employ. One report has appeared stating that by adopting a system with three centre backs, JT could be handed a life line by Conte and offered a new contract.
It's interesting to see what happens here isn't it because formations with three centre backs are very few and far between in the Premier League and the rest of the country for that matter. I personally believe that we have had a squad set for 4-3-3 this season and have adopted the wrong tactics throughout. Some reports state that Conte has already identified a 4-3-3 at Chelsea which would put question marks against JT.
I still personally think that JT deserves a new contract and it should have been offered to him months ago! You see how hard he works to remain in great physical shape and his desire hasn't wavered as he has aged with many people stating that he is now too slow which is bollocks in my view.
There is no one better that reads the game in front of him from that defensive line. There is no one better positionally either. He is a great leader and most importantly a talker who will give people a kick up the arse or advice to guide them through games. He doesn't need to be lightening quick if he has the right protection in front of him and I just wonder if JT playing in the middle of three centre backs is the way forward?
People will talk up the inclusion of Andreas Christensen and I agree totally but you simply cannot buy experience within a squad.
What do you people think of JT? Does he deserve a new contract? Would it work with him in the middle of three centre backs?
