Chelsea face a battle with Andreas Christensen this summer to convince him to cut short his loan arrangement with Borussia Monchengladbach just one year into a two year deal.
As we are all more than aware, Chelsea need a revamp this summer and by all accounts the planning process is well under way with players being linked with moves to and from Stamford Bridge. Part of that planning process is the consideration of the players we currently have out on loan with a number of them being considered for a role within our first team squad next season as stated here!
So to Christensen and Chelsea's role for him next season which at this stage is unclear. With Kurt Zouma, Matt Miazga and Gary Cahill all contracted to be here but John Terry awaiting news on whether he will be offered a one-year extension, it looks as though the club want him to step up to the first team squad if JT leaves.
The problem for the player with this situation is that he is playing week in, week out in the Bundesliga and has really impressed with his performances. If he comes back here, it's more than likely that he would spend most of the time on the bench playing second fiddle to the others. If we put ourselves in his position then it really is a no brainer - stay where you are!
However, this really is a massive summer for the club and next season is going to be huge for us. We MUST get back into the top four without question. To do that, the new manager coming in must look at what would be left of our current squad to evaluate where we need to strengthen. Based on a lack of European football next season, the major names and big signings will look beyond Chelsea and this is where the Chelsea players currently out on loan could become key for us beyond the summer.
From what I understand, Chelsea hold Christensen in high regard and have done so for a while now. If he is good enough then he should play or at least be considered for selection week in, week out as far as I am concerned.
If Chelsea cannot offer him at least that, then I see no reason as to why he would want to come back here in the summer!
