When people talk of Leicester and their amazing season this year people will highlight Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez is their two main men and both their contributions to Claudio Ranieri's first season back in the Premier League.
However, Kante's performances have NOT gone un-noticed either. Bought in the summer for a virtual pittance compared to what other players have been signed for, Kante WILL be named in the Premier League team of the season, of that there is little doubt. It's what happens to him and Leicester after the season has finished that has become the subject of plenty of speculation.
So to Kante's comments made in a recent interview while away and scoring with France. He was asked of the speculation about his future and he responded by saying:
“I will fight for Leicester this season. Next season we never know and we will see.
At this moment I am focused on Leicester. I don’t mind about [being linked with] the other clubs.”
Chelsea face a battle for his signature if the reports are correct and we ARE interested in signing him. Let's not forget that Leicester will be in the Champions League next season and we won't be!
The deeper midfield area is something that needs to be looked at this summer. Mikel is talking about leaving if the new manager comes in and doesn't play him and we have Nemanja Matic who seems to have been a casualty of Guus Hiddink's return at Chelsea.
It all depends on what the new manager wants to do and how he wants to play with our formation being key. I have said it before on here time and time again but I personally believe our squad is perfectly set up to play 4-3-3 with two dynamic midfielders playing either side of someone playing the Makelele role, with licence to play box-to-box.
Whether that's Oscar, Mikel, Matic, Fabregas, Willian or Ruben Loftus-Cheek, that's up for debate but Kante is someone that EVERY club should consider if he is looking to leave once the season is finished. He is athletic, dynamic, loves a tackle and can get around the pitch (like a certain Ramires I might add!) and would fit right in at Stamford Bridge next season.
The question is whether or not N’Golo Kante would be willing to come to Chelsea as we look to rebuild after a dreadful season?
I would love to see him here but unfortunately, Chelsea will not be the only team in for him if he was to become available and with those that can offer Champions League football, we will more than likely lose out.
You never know though and one thing is for sure - money talks!
