According to reports, Chelsea have turned down a bid of believed to be £75m for Oscar from the Chinese Super Club Jiangsu Suning. It's a staggering amount of money from the big Chinese spenders having already acquired Ramires and who are about to sign Alex Teixeira the long standing Liverpool target.
Chelsea turned down the approach for Oscar, who signed for Chelsea for £19m in 2012 and has a deal that runs until 2019, as they believe he remains an important part of our future. According to the report in The Telegraph, the Chinese side will be back to test the water and tempt Chelsea selling in the summer.
Now that's ridiculous it really is. Oscar isn't worth £75m and some would argue that we should have taken the money to re-invest it elsewhere to give Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker a chance instead. However, I am glad we have held onto him but what happens between now and the end of the season could have an influence on next season and beyond.
You look at Oscar as his slight frame and you questioned whether or not he would be able to cope with the physical aspect of the game here when he first signed. Oscar has proven to all of us that he can handle himself and that he isn't afraid of getting stuck into tackles. In some cases when we push up and press our opponents, Oscar turns out to be our best defender by winning the ball back and purely winning tackles.
It's what he does or can do with the ball at his feet which is exciting. He has an eye for a goal as we have all seen last week with his hat-trick at the MK Dons and can create something out of nothing.
Oscar is only 24 and has so much to give at Chelsea and in the Premier League. The next few seasons we should hopefully see him reach his prime and to sell him would be a mistake but we all know that money talks.
For Chelsea to turn down that amount of money is a massive statement and sign of intent from the club. Let's hope we can hold onto him beyond the summer!
