John Terry's dispute with Chelsea rumbles on over a new contract and we should prepare ourselves for the fact that nothing is likely to change until the summer. The club have stated that the door isn't closed and the channels of discussion remain open, whereas JT will tell you that there has been no communication at all!
I sincerely hope that Chelsea offer him at least another year because he remains one of the best defenders in the Premier League. I am aware that people will state his age, the fact they believe he is too slow and we should be looking to bring through younger talent and I do understand that, but you cannot buy experience and leadership which Terry gives you in abundance.
At this stage, I do not want to think about John Terry leaving Chelsea because he still has an important contribution to make towards the end of our season so I will leave that to the many pundits and ex-pro's out there who like to give their opinions more than we would probably prefer these days.
So to Ray Wilkins who has worked closely with John Terry at Chelsea and what he feels about JT leaving. He believes that although JT wouldn't want to play for another English club, demand would be high elsewhere.
He said:
“There will be plenty of suitors if they do decide that his time is up.
He is still one of the top three central defenders in the Premier League so there will be loads of clubs out there willing to take him.
I don’t believe he will play for another club in England but plenty of clubs will want to take him. China has a massive pull for everybody at the moment, the MLS of course would appeal and the Middle East, which would throw a player of John’s calibre a lot of money. But I sincerely hope he stays here with us, for our enjoyment.”
The problem we have here is that JT is the complete professional. He looks after himself off the pitch and has put in so many hours in pre-season over the last couple of summers that he comes into a new season fighting fit and raring to go. Without question it will be the same this summer.
Anyone can see that he can still play at a high level for one or maybe two more seasons so would he look to play in Europe or as Wilkins says earn a big payday in the MLS or China? I am not so sure.
The question was put to Willian recently and he is convinced he is about to leave. He said:
"I think he would like to stay longer with us, but unfortunately it seems he won’t be able to remain as a Chelsea player.
The club won’t probably extend his contract. I can just wish him the best of luck for the rest of his career.”
What do you people think about the JT situation as it is now? Do you believe that he should be given a new playing contract or even the chance to manage Chelsea next season?
I am interested in reading as many opinions as possible on this.
