Life as a backup or number two Goalkeeper at Chelsea can be very hit and miss. You could spend most of the season sitting on the bench hoping for a start in the domestic cup competitions with the hope that maybe towards the end of the season, you would be given a chance in the Premier League.
This season was a very different story with Thibaut Courtois suffering a bad injury that kept him out of action for three months giving Begovic, a regular starter at previous club Stoke, a chance to come in and make his mark at Chelsea.
I think it's fair to say, despite what happened to Chelsea in the first half of the season, Begovic was outstanding and on many different occasions kept the score against us as respectable. We lost to Man City but had been battered and if it wasn't for him, it could have been five, six or even seven.
Begovic came in, settled down and fitted straight into our club as if he had been playing here for years. At that time it couldn't have worked out better for him personally as he had been given the chance to play for an extended period of time having just joined us.
However, since the return to fitness of Thibaut Courtois, he has made a single appearance against Scunthorpe in the FA Cup third round and there are now reports that he has become frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities.
Now I have to say I do find that a joke really. It's one thing to believe in your own ability, it's one thing to be a regular starter for Stoke but to leave and come to Chelsea and think you were going to dispose the big Belgian as our number one is simply delusional. Petr Cech couldn't do it so why on earth would he think that he would?
I respect Begovic and he has proven that he is a good Goalkeeper. He does deserve to be the number one playing in the Premier League week in, week out but not at Chelsea.
In my opinion the move is a good one if it comes off and Chelsea would have the chance to promote Jamal Blackman into our first team squad as backup to Courtois.
What do you people think of Begovic and his start at Chelsea to now that he is unhappy?
