These two games against PSG are massive, the biggest of our season so far and with Diego Costa back on form, scoring goals and becoming much more of an influence, PSG have a very different threat to deal with compared to last season.
People have to remember that Costa was experiencing his goal drought during the time we faced PSG last season. He had started the season fantastically well and scoring for fun but the second half of the season that all changed. He became (as he did at the start of this season) more interested in having a row with defenders rather than focusing on his football and getting on the score sheet. David Luiz in particular loved to wind him up particularly at Stamford Bridge in the second leg.
This time around heading into the game Diego Costa is totally different. His whole game has gotten back on track with him becoming a much more influential player on the pitch. His movement is excellent, his willingness to work hard and run his socks off has come about because he is now getting the service a striker craves and we e no longer see Costa drift out wide in games to pick the ball up or to get involved as he plays the width of the penalty box. As a result he is scoring goals again and really looks like he is enjoying his football.
Diego Costa has once again become the focal point in our play whether it's to play the ball up to him so he can hold it up and bring others into the game, to make a run in behind for Cesc Fabregas to find him with a pinpoint pass or to make a movement in and around the box to give him time and space to score.
There will be times in both games we will need all those qualities he gives us. More so in Paris, we will need him to hold the ball up and bring the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro into the game. He must not get sucked in with any confrontation with Luiz or Silva because they will be looking for it. He must remain focused on what we need him to do because over the two games he could prove to be the difference.
Diego Costa is back to his best. Let's hope he can be the difference over the two legs!
