On Thursday at the Chelsea training session, Diego Costa and Oscar squared up to each other over tackles made and had to be separated. What do you think of what happened? Is it something out of nothing or do you see it as a good thing?
According to reports, the line WAS crossed twice, firstly by Oscar going through the back of Costa as he tried to win the ball - a tackle we are used to seeing Costa having to take from Premier League defenders on week-to-week basis, and then Costa going in twice as hard on Oscar to get him back. This led to a virtual nose-to-nose confrontation and the pair had to be separated. Punches were NOT thrown at any stage.
Guus Hiddink in his pre-match press conference had to come out and refute any claims of a training ground brawl taking place as a result yesterday owing to the coverage the incident was given by the press within hours of it happening:
It's important to remember that there are plenty of goings on at the training ground that we never hear of up and down the country. Incidents such as this are more than likely common place but, because it's Chelsea and because of previous training ground incidents in recent weeks the press have jumped all over it.
I like the fact that the players are showing a level of passion and desire for the game again as they are looking to impress the new manager. However, you don't want anyone injured from it but it's better in my view than to have training sessions with no contact at all.
What's the point of playing a non-contact game because you are not going to have that in the Premier League? If you can't handle training sessions like that then you are better off heading to the local casino to check out the bonus for Tiki Island slot than to get amongst it in training!
I also have to say fair play to Oscar here because he isn't the biggest but he chose to put one on Costa out of everyone and we have seen how the big man reacts when it happens on a match day. Oscar is one of the most hard working midfielders in our team without the ball and puts himself about so to be like that in training I applaud him.
What do you think of the reported bust up? Have the press made this out to be something more than it actually is as Guus Hiddink has stated?
