According to reports, Chelsea have identified Alexis Sanchez as the player they want to replace Eden Hazard and will offer Arsenal £50m this summer.
That's a surprising move if there is actual substance in these reports because I cannot see Arsenal entertaining the idea or doing any business with us when it comes to players with the quality he has. Arsenal have more than enough money these days and they do not have to sell so any offer would be rejected out of hand.
In saying that, everyone has their price as we are likely to find out when Real Madrid come knocking on the door for Hazard. I expect a fee bigger than Gareth Bale to be quoted and they will be more than likely to pay it. What if Chelsea offered Arsenal mega money plus an additional player that they would be interested in such as Ola Aina?
I can't help but feel that it all depends on what happens between now and the end of the season. Arsenal have little hope in the Champions League after being drawn against Barcelona. I admit that anything can happen but it's unlikely.
This season in my opinion is Arsenal's best chance of winning the Premier League in years. They are in a great position now and usually have a strong second half of the season. If they can win the League then Sanchez is going nowhere. If they blow it (as some Arsenal fans do not believe that Arsene Wenger will lead them to another title), then maybe just maybe some of their players will look to move on as in Ozil and Sanchez.
I personally hope that these reports featured on transferrumours.co.uk do have substance and there is firm Chelsea interest. It would be a massive blow to lose Hazard but imagine what Alexis Sanchez could bring to Chelsea instead. First and foremost goals. His scoring record is impressive in his first season and you have to believe that after taking year to get used to playing in England that he would really kick on now.
He is an explosive talent who can create something out of nothing and as we have seen in this League, it those tight, hard fought games you need players who have the ability to do that. His pace and his skill are a massive benefit to any side and could prove to be the difference.
My initial reaction to the reports was firstly excellent followed by the realisation that we won't get him because Arsenal will not want to do business.
I just wonder if there was some sort of agreement or a deal struck between the two clubs when the Petr Cech deal was done. I wonder if Chelsea would have negotiated first option on someone like Sanchez?
As I say, there is plenty that could happen between now and the end of the season that could have an impact of the future of the biggest names in England. One thing is for sure, players want to win trophies with the Premier League being one of them. If Arsenal don't this season I just wonder in light of interest from Chelsea, if Sanchez would want to listen to what we had to say??
