According to reports, Branislav Ivanovic is waiting to hear if Chelsea will offer him a new contract in the summer. I am wondering if you think that Chelsea will keep him?
The 31 year-old has a problem however due to Chelsea's policy with new contracts for players over the age of 30. If he is to be offered a new deal, it would be a one year rolling contract that is reviewed at the end of each season and it's being reported that the player wants a two-year deal.
Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho are both big admirers of Ivanovic and it looks as though Guus Hiddink is also with the Serbian defender handed the Captain's armband against Scunthorpe last Sunday. All indications seem to be that he WILL be offered a new one-year deal despite the reported interest from AC Milan, Inter Milan and Zenit St Petersburg.
I just wonder if you feel as though he should keep Ivanovic for another season at least based on what he has done for our club in general over the years and his current form which is a marked improvement on the start of the season?
We have youngsters pushing for a place within our squad and the likes of Baba Rahman itching for a regular start and I just wonder if Chelsea would be willing to let him go this summer?
They say in order to have a successful team, you need to find the right blend, the right balance of experienced players and youth. Experience is vital and key areas and you need a solid base to build from. If this was last season, I would have offered him a new deal based on his performances with the rest of our back five. This season has been different for the most part.
What would you people do here? Would you offer Ivanovic a one-year deal to keep him here or would you consider letting him go?
