Alexandre Pato is about to sign for Chelsea on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season and I am interest to read the opinions of as many Chelsea fans as possible. What do you think of him?
He's still only 26-years old and is proven quality. As I posted on here last week, the final two years he spent at AC Milan (having made the impact he had done previously) were blighted by injury and he moved back to Brazil as a result. Before those two seasons he had been described as one of the brightest talents in the game!
His ability is scary in my opinion and it will be interesting to see just how well he adapts to life in England. I will say this, I do understand some Chelsea fans having reservations about him as we have not exactly had a great record of signing strikers with a few exceptions (Drogba, Costa etc).
Pato has rediscovered his goal scoring touch in Brazil which had alerted Chelsea and some others to his current situation out there. It seems as though moving back to Europe was always going to happen but I am surprised that the deal is only a six month loan agreement. I just wonder if Chelsea have an option to buy if he proves to be a success?
He can play as the main striker or in behind Costa. He is two footed, has pace about him and as I have said an eye for a goal. He scores all different kinds of goals too not just tap in's or simple goals.
I see the move as a positive and everyone deserves a chance. With the current options we have available in Remy and Falcao, it's just not enough to really push Diego Costa to fight for a regular start.
Diego is our main striker and it will be interesting to see just how often Pato starts games or is heavily involved. He does offer us an alternative to the style of Costa which is something that Guus Hiddink will want to have here. Think back to his first spell as manager and he had Drogba and Anelka.
The loan arrangement is the perfect platform I guess for the player himself in all of this. He is being given the chance to establish himself again in a top European league, to almost put himself back in the shop window and you would imagine if he proves to be a success then other big names would be looking to sign him.
We've already seen a former top striker join on loan this season and it not working out as planned. Let's hope that Pato's move will be very different!
What do you think of Pato and his chances here?
