Jose Mourinho and Chelsea Football club reached a mutual agreement to terminate this contract at 2pm this afternoon and sent shockwaves around the football world. I am asking the you all who should Roman Abrmamovich turn to next?
The Official club statement reads:
"Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent.
All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013.
His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.
The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.
The club’s focus is now on ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential.
There will be no further comment until a new appointment is made."
With the decision being made as it has, you have to think that Chelsea already have a replacement lined up or at least they have made initial enquiries as to the availability. They have must have received a favourable response to act now after giving Jose an apparent public backing.
I called to question the decision to possibly sack the manager now due to the fact that we will not be relegated and the top four is beyond us. If anything, it would have made sense to see the season out and hope that our fortunes change.
Based on the news a moment ago, I cannot help but feel that the manager had finally lost the dressing room after a number of statements being made calling into question their attitude. As we have seen throughout the season, the majority of the players have been dropped due to lack of form and some of them in massive games for us such as Cesc Fabregas against Porto ( which as we know, turned out OK in the end).
I have said that the game has evolved so much now that it's as much about man managing your players as it is to be tactically aware. As soon said you struggle to do that, you have serious problems.
A manger that is famed for his personal relationships with the players has seen most of them deminish over the past few months and this could be the reason that Roman Abramovich has decided to act now. At the end of the day, it's a lot easier to replace one individual than it is to replace an entire team!
As soon as the news of Jose's sacking broke, I had an instant flashback to 2007 when Jose left the first time around. This feeling I have today is entirely different because I've have expected something to have happened weeks ago. As each defeat came, I would Tweet that I generally feared for his future and all of us have to admit we have felt the same.
I will always love, admire and respect Jose Mourinho for what he has done for my club in both times he has been here. However, I have to admit that for most of us, that could have been or at least was beginning to be tarnished slightly so as it was in 2007, it is the right time to go. Isn't it funny how things work out though! He first came here after Claudio Ranieri was sacked as manager and now Jose's last game in charge of us was defeat at the hands of the likeable Italiian!
So what now? Who should we turn to? Who is available and is the club looking at a long term signing or another caretaker role until the summer? Roberto Di Matteo is available!!
So people, what do you think of the sacking of Mourinho and who do you think we have lined up to come in? Who do you want to come in?
One thing is for sure. Expect Jose Mourinho to turn up at Manchester United in the near future!
