Much has been made of the Costa/Mourinho spat in Israel this week but the boss has a simple message, "You have to anticipate things and read the game faster".
I am so happy because after weeks and weeks of watching the same bullshit from Costa, the Boss has also sees it and has acknowledged that THIS is one of the areas that is costing us week in, week out!
I have slated Diego Costa on here in recent weeks after the Dynamo Kiev game and again after Norwich last weekend and I feel justified in doing so. His movement has gone and our team is suffering!
To Mourinho and what he has actually said about their spat and the reasoning behind it:
“In the game I told him, from a distance, that I was not happy with the movement he did. He told me a few ‘nice words’ from where he was. And nothing happened. Nothing happened at half-time.
Everything is OK, no problem, no problem. But he’s not reading the game properly in these actions. That was my opinion. As a striker he must read. You have to play not only when you have the ball but when others have the ball. You have to anticipate things and read the game faster. Everything is an accumulation [of confidence]. You’re not on fire again just because you’ve scored a winning goal against Norwich. It’s all a process.”
He is spot on and that's exactly what Costa at this moment, is NOT doing!
Last season, the movement off the ball, the runs to create openings and chances was there. The anticipation to get into the box on the end of things was there so it's hard to understand what has happened this term.
I wonder if his heart just isn't in it and he is looking for a return to Spain? Surely Costa is better than that? Surely he understands that he still has to get out there and perform for the team and we rely on him to be THE MAN up top?
I really, really hope that the fact this has all come to head in midweek, with Mourinho saying what he has above, that Costa will change and will become somewhere near the unstoppable force he was last season starting today at White Hart Lane.
