It's silly season and once again Wayne Rooney is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Chelsea being installed as the early favourites to sign him.
In my opinion the media really are clutching at straws at the moment during the international break. Let's face it, there has been a sudden halt to their continued barrage against Chelsea and Jose Mourinho in particular, therefore, they have to come up with something else. What better story to "create" than one that coincides with England's trip to Spain tonight as Rooney prepares to line up against Diego Costa!
We all know that Chelsea made THREE bids for Rooney back in the summer of 2013 which were rejected by United and that's all there is to it.
If Rooney was to become available, I am sure that Roman Abramovich would be back in for the striker but I cannot see that happening in the near future.
I have said it before on here at the time of the reported failed bids that I personally really like Rooney as a player and believe he would be the closest match we could have ever for Eidur Gudjohnsen at this club.
Think back to the days of Gudjohnsen, especially back in Jose's first season in 2004. Didier Drogba was out injured for a couple of months and our famous 4-3-3 formation was born as a result. Damien Duff and Arjen Robben played either side of Gudjohnsen up top and their interplay became one of main reasons we won the league.
Eidur would drop off and link up our play, he would run in behind, he could hold up play and he could take people on himself just as Wayne Rooney has the potential to do. However, I believe that we have not seen the best of Rooney yet and at Chelsea, playing in that formation, he could become unstoppable or at any club for that matter.
We are yet to see what happens with Rooney at United under LVG but my money is on him staying up north!
What do you people think of the link with Chelsea again and of Rooney as a player in general?
Oh no not again? Leave him with ManU we buy too many clapped out strikers
