Chelsea takes on Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Sammy Ofer stadium this Tuesday evening in the fourth round of Group G fixtures.
Trailing group leaders FC Porto by three points, the Blues are tasked with taking maximum points from their final two group stage fixtures if they to have any chance of sealing the coveted top spot.
Jose Mourinho, who broke a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Norwich City at Stamford Bridge last Saturday, will be eager to go one better than a second-place finish, but may also have one eye on the upcoming clash with Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Slavisa Jokanovic almost has a full-strength squad to choose from with the exception of Dejan Radonjic due to a calf injury.
Maccabi Tel Aviv Starting XI Prediction
Rajkovic | Dasa, Haim, Tibi, Rikan | Vermouth, Mitrovic, Alberman, Peretz, Basat | Zahavi
Previous Meeting
16 September 2015
Chelsea 4-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv
The Blues coasted home in the opening round of the Champions League group stage. Eden Hazard missed a penalty early on, but his error was comprehensively atoned for by goals from Willian, Oscar, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas. The comfortable victory gave the Stamford Bridge crowd a much-needed lift ahead of a must-win league clash with Arsenal the following Saturday.
Score Prediction
Our narrow win over Norwich City was promising, but by no means convincing. Despite dominating possession and firing off more than 20 shots at goal, it took the quick wit of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa to break through a stubborn and well-organised defence. However, given our current situation, the importance of three points clearly outweighs the margin of victory.
Eden Hazard reminded us of what he's capable of throughout the Norwich game, albeit in a slightly altered role. The Belgian operated as a number 10 behind Diego Costa and thrived given the license to float around the attacking third. With Willian locked in as our first-choice on the right and options in Pedro, Kenedy or even Oscar on the opposite flank, I'd like to see Hazard in this role more often.
There's still plenty of work to do if we are to rebuild this season, but I think finishing atop our Champions League group would give us a vital confidence boost for the remainder of the campaign. Needing two wins from our final two games, I think we have enough quality to get the job done here and see off Maccabi Tel Aviv. I'll go for a 2-0 win. What are your score predictions?
