Despite their struggles in the Premier League, Chelsea look well placed to secure their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Jose Mourinho’s men have failed to inspire confidence in the domestic game this season but, after four European fixtures, they look set to once again feature in the last-16 stage of the continent’s elite club competition.
The Blues have placed plenty of emphasis on their Champions League performances ever since Roman Abramovich took charge of the club but perhaps this season’s efforts may be more important than ever. Many believe that victory in Europe’s elite club competition is the only outcome that can secure Mourinho’s position for next season and if anybody is capable of leading this team to Champions League glory, it is him.
Chelsea have an excellent
group of players, there’s no doubt about that. Yes, the majority are going
through a bad run of form but they are more than capable of turning their
misfortunes around. The Blues have match winners all over the field and,
although the likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been amongtheir most disappointing performers
this season, could surprise a few throughout the tournament.
At the time of writing, Coral
are pricing Chelsea at 22/1 to win this year’s competition. However, if you
don’t believe that the Blues will win the tournament, you can bet on various
scenarios, from outrights to next manager to leavemarkets. They can also keep you
updated on all of the latest Chelsea news, transfer gossip and results.
Standing in the way of
Chelsea? Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid. It could be argued that these three teams are the only truly‘elite’ clubs in Europe and they
will all fancy their chances of success this season. On their day, these sides
are almost unbeatable and Chelsea will be hoping to avoid all three throughout
the competition.
One thing that Chelsea have is the famous Stamford Bridge atmosphere. In recent years, our supporters have stepped up to the plate in crucial European home matches and have played a crucial role in Chelsea’s success. The fans will be vital to any chance of success once again this season.
Can they win the competition? Potentially. If they can improve and build some momentum, the Blues will stand an excellent chance this season. Mourinho is a brilliant manager and, although he has made some rash decisions in the opening stages of the campaign, he remains one of the top coaches on the planet. With the Portuguese in charge, you never know… Chelsea might just go on to win the tournament.
We haven't qualified for the knock-out stage yet and, on current form, I wouldn't take odds of 22/1 on that let alone winning the tournament.
