Chelsea will need to defeat Group G leaders Dynamo Kiev at the Olympic Stadium if it is return to winning ways in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The Londoners will be eager to build on their 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday with a victory over a side they’ve never faced before.
Sitting in third, Chelsea lost 2-1 at the hands of FC Porto last time out in European competition, but a single point separates us from Dynamo Kiev and FC Porto above us.
A loss wouldn’t be an absolute disaster, but we should look to seize control of the group with our remaining round robin fixtures looking very favourable indeed. They comprise of the Ukrainian champions and Porto at Stamford Bridge before we sign off against Maccabi Tel Aviv away.
Dynamo Kiev will be no pushovers, though. The hosts suffered their first league defeat in 39 matches after a 3-0 thrashing by fellow giants Shakhtar Donetsk. However, Serhiy Rebrov’s men boast a more than respectable home record in European football, losing only one of their last 10 fixtures.
Rebrov is yet to hose his pre-match press conference, but reports indicate he could be without key midfielder Serhiy Rybalka, who is carrying a slight muscle problem.
Shovkovskiy | Danilo Silva, Dragovic, Khacheridi, Antunes | Rybalka, Veloso | Garmash, Gusev, Yarmolenko | Kravets
Jose Mourinho has announced Loic Remy and Pedro are carrying knocks won’t be making the trip to Ukraine, instead joining Branislav Ivanovic and Thibaut Courtois in the treatment room. The pair is likely to return against West Ham at the weekend.
The Ukrainians will be determined to bounce back from a harrowing 3-0 defeat to their domestic arch rivals, Shakhtar Donetsk, at the weekend. Coming off the back of an important victory against Villa on Saturday, Chelsea should be in the better frame of mind going into the clash. Although it by no means the perfect display, I believe we should have the confidence and quality to get a win in Ukraine.
I’ll go for a 3-1 victory. What are your score predictions?
