We all watched Diego Costa's frustrations, his shake of the head and looking to the skies as if to ask for some sort of divine intervention to our season against Porto. However, despite all that, Diego Costa has issued a rallying call to his Chelsea team mates.
After a blistering start to his Chelsea career this time last year, Costa has struggled for goals and as with everyone else in the squad is low on confidence.
The much maligned striker still goes out on that pitch and works his socks off for the team. Unfortunately, it's his bust ups on the pitch that people outside looking in tend to focus on with (as we have seen time and time again), the press and media jumping all over that side of his game.
What people tend to ignore is his willingness to do the dirty work, to graft, to make runs away from defenders offering himself as an option to play up to and someone who expects his teammates to work just as hard.
Finding ourselves in the position we are at the moment you would be forgiven to refer back to recent times when you would be used to quotes coming out of our camp from the likes of Peter Cech, Didier Drogba or Frank Lampard. These players were the cornerstone of our team for years, the players we all looked to make a difference. As we know they are now Legends who have moved on for the time being so it's important that now we have people in that dressing room who can speak up, inspire and drag the players with them through all this. I honestly believe that Diego Costa is one of those people we are all looking to.
So to his comments after the disappointing result on Tuesday. He said:
“To come out of this we need to be all together, and for everyone to give a little more. We are not playing well, this is not a good moment, but we have players to get out of this easily".
Simple, to the point and hopefully effective. It's players with the mentality such as Costa that will give everything for the shirt and lay everything down on that pitch that we want out there to make the difference right now."
We have all heard reports of when Costa first joined Chelsea. He approached the likes of John Terry and told them he can come here to fight for everything and them all to join him.
One thing is for sure, sitting in the stands serving the last game his his three match ban, Costa will be there supporting his teammates, itching to get out on that pitch.
Let's hope the players show the same levels of fight and desire that he would!
