Chelsea suffered their THIRD Premier League defeat in just FIVE games with a 3-1 loss to Everton this lunchtime and ignore those that say we are not. Chelsea ARE in crisis right now!
There is so, so much wrong with us it's staggering compared to last season and Jose Mourinho needs to make drastic changes to the way he approaches his team selections AND to his substitutions. If anything, the crisis goes all the way through the team, the players and the manager and this is something we never thought we would say back in the summer!
Players are playing with no confidence and look a shadow of themselves. They look un-fit, a yard short of pace and almost just going through the motions expecting to get a result and that's light years from how we played this time last season. Every aspect of the team has problems from defence and through midfield into attack. We just look so dis-jointed it's unbelievable.
The biggest problem we have right now is that we cannot stop conceding goals and we look nowhere near a team that could score them at the other end! Injury problems like the one to Courtois can't be blamed so how can we fix this fast?
Branislav Ivanovic and our right hand side.
This afternoon, I could not understand the continued selection of Branislav Ivanovic at right back. Don't get me wrong, I love the man and what he has done for our club but it's become apparent this season more than any other, that he struggles against pace and movement.
This afternoon once again, it's very noticeable that the first two Everton goals came from our right hand side. It's an area that the opposition will continue to target as long as he plays in that position. One thing I will say in his defence, Kurt Zouma needed to have done better with the first AND third goals picking up the late run into the box of Steven Naismith.
Matic cannot do it all by himself in the middle of midfield!
Nemanja Matic cannot do everything himself in the deeper midfield positions. Mikel came in and for me did OK but is he the answer? We MUST sort out that position in particular because the opposition is finding far too much space in the area in front of our back four.
What about a switch to 4-3-3 and play Matic with Fabregas and Willian either side of him? Put more bodies in that central area to win possession and dominate the ball.
Eden Hazard - A shadow of himself - Stick to that left hand side!
Eden Hazard looks a shadow of himself also and that's concerning. I don't want to see him fleeting around the pitch, popping up in different positions. I want him to occupy our left hand side and to stay there. Too many times this afternoon, he came inside and was put under immediate pressure and lost the ball or found himself put on his arse! He needs the ball to feet down that left hand side to face up to his opponent. That's where he gets the better of his man.
Fabregas - Shake off the hangover - release it quickly!
Cesc Fabregas is another who looks to be playing with a hangover from last season. We need him on point, picking the ball up and dictating our play. I haven't seen that much of him doing that this season so far, If anything, he is in and out of games and seems to be a second too slow in releasing the ball.
Costa - A yard short and more interested in aggro than goals!
Diego Costa is another. He looks way short of pace and again, not the same player as last season. Surely Jose cannot put up with performances from him like he has been doing. OK, he works hard but more often than not spends his time battling with officials and defenders rather than making a telling contribution as he did last season!
Jose Mourinho - Sort out your team selections AND substitutions!
A final gripe I have today is Jose Mourinho! I love the man as much as the next person but what was he doing with his substitutions today? I can understand Mikel coming off but for Kenedy? Really? Why then take of Pedro and Fabregas when you are chasing a game? I know I've had a moan about Fabregas above but at least he could pick a pass out from somewhere at some stage!
There is so much wrong with our play it's really concerning. Jose can talk as much as he likes about performances but it's goals that win you games and you have to say for the most part this season so far, we do not look like scoring!
Something needs to be done to stop the rot at the back and to find the net on a regular occurrence. All this pretty football is all well and good but as soon as we get to the final third it all comes to a complete standstill! How many times did Costa get down that right hand side and look up to see no-one in the box!
This is a massive week for Jose Mourinho and for the Chelsea players. Something has to change and quickly. Don't believe anyone else who tells you otherwise! Chelsea right now ARE in Crisis!
