Radamel Falcao has been speaking to the media ahead of the new season about his move to Chelsea and has stated that he is under no pressure to score goals! How do you feel about that?
Let's look at what he said first of all here before we make any judgements. He said:
"I feel very well, free and with a lot of confidence. I don't feel pressure to score.
Strikers always want to score goals, clearly, but I'm calm. The goals will come and we have great strikers in this team.
Diego Costa and Loic Remy are excellent finishers. We hope to have healthy competition and, after that, the coach will decide.
The more games we play the more the team will grow and we will be ready to fight this season."
That's fair enough in context with what the rest of what he has said. However, the fact that he has stated that he is under no pressure concerns me as he is a striker after all.
He only has to look at the move to Chelsea, the decision to take a reported 50% pay cut to sign on loan with us and what happened in Manchester to realise that now more than ever, all eyes will be on Falcao to produce goals again.
I personally believe that what happened at United was just a blip due to lack of playing time and a regular run.
At Chelsea, with Diego Costa's continued hamstring problems, there WILL be pressure on Falcao to step up and deliver goals we need to maintain the grip with have on the Premier League title.
I sincerely hope it works out for all of us. I have said it before but form is temporary, class is permanent and Falcao is world class!
If he thinks he is under no pressure, he will be well aware pretty soon!
