Chelsea only have themselves to blame for losing this one on a game of two halves. Arsenal were the better side in the first half and capitalised, Chelsea were the better in the second but failed to do so. That was the difference on the day!
Two blatant, clear cut chances that fell first to Ramires in the first half, followed up with Eden Hazard missing a sitter in the second, Chelsea never had the luck at Wembley yesterday.
To their credit, Arsenal made the most of their chance when Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain was allowed to cut inside and blast a left foot shot into the top corner giving Thibaut Courtois no chance. Arsenal also forced Courtois into three or four other saves on the day that kept Chelsea in it.
I was disappointed with our first half performance as we never seemed to get going until late on. We seemed jet lagged and leggy as Arsenal look much quicker than us.
Eden Hazard hardly saw the ball in the first half and when he did, it went backwards with no driving run up against his defender forcing him backwards and Loic Remy spent more time being caught offside and wasting our good possession time and time again which really pissed me off.
It was when we did manage to get in behind the Arsenal defence wide left that we created a clear cut chance for Ramires to equalise. Remy got to the byline, crossed the ball in and found Ramires unmarked with Petr Cech rooted to his goal-line. However, Ramires must have expected Cech to come out because he rushed his header, almost jumping under the ball and headed over from EIGHT yards!
Second half and the change is made, Remy is taken off before he is called offside again for Falcao but despite making the right runs, he doesn't get the service he is looking for and becomes ineffective.
Willian was our best player on the day, followed by Nemanja Matic. Fabregas' free kicks and corners left alot to be desired, time and time again we gave the ball away and whenever Hazard (who had come to life in the second half) picked up the ball he was brought down by the opposition.
The one clear cut chance he had was when he was played into the box wide right and just as he looked to set himself to fire into the corner of the net, the defender came in with the challenge and he skied the ball over the bar from close range when he should have scored.
It's all well and good to say we were the better team but we didn't take our chances compared to Arsenal taking theirs and that's what won them the game.
Work to be done before next weekend! What did you think of the game?
