According to sources in Turkey, Fenerbahce sporting director Giuliano Terraneo held talks with John Obi Mikel, the Nigeria international while he was in London and a move this summer is possible.
The is a constant stream of speculation about all sorts of players coming into the club and going out and this isn't the first time Mikel has been mentioned of leaving due to a lack of first team football.
As we know for the most part, Mikel had to settle playing second fiddle to Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic and you would have to believe that he wouldn't been too keen on repeating that situation again.
Let's also remember that Ramires had started last season with injury and it took him a while to get back to full fitness. In fact, it was only towards the final third of the season that Jose Mourinho stated:
We have our Ramires back!
You would have to imagine he would be above Mikel in the managers plans for the coming season but there is also another player to consider and that's Oriol Romeu.
The Spaniard is back at Cobham and has reported for pre season training and is another for Mourinho to consider having signed an extension to his Chelsea contract last summer.
As our game evolves and players in all positions are encouraged to move ball quickly and wisely, it was Oriol Romeu who made us all sit up and take notice when he had initially replaced Mikel under Andre Villas Boas. His use of the ball was excellent compared to the slow, laboured and play it sideways approach Mikel often has fallen into.
One thing I will say about Mikel is that he is the second best defensive midfielder at our club behind Matic. Could his defensive instincts and qualities prove to be enough to convince Jose Mourinho to play him more this season?
Or, do you think the club will thank him for his service and contribution to our success and allow him to leave?
What would you do? Keep him or sell him?
Don't forget Loftus-Cheek, whose upside would seem to be miles ahead of what Mikel is capable of. Cash in on him now, as another year on the bench would see his value plummet.
